I-LEAD Europe
Why Netherlands and Belgium?
The two countries Netherlands and Belgium are chosen for the first I-LEAD Europe program due to the following facts:
- Netherlands is known as the land of tulips, windmills, canals, clogs and coffee shops.
- According to the Global Innovation Index, Netherlands is amongst one of the most innovative countries in the world.
- Netherlands is known as ‘the flower shop of the world’ and produces 80% of the world’s flower bulbs and the flower industry makes up over 5% of the Netherland’s GDP.
- Netherlands is the most low-lying country in Europe, with almost one-third of it below sea level.
- Amsterdam is built on more than a million wooden poles, which extend around 12 metres into the ground.
- Netherlands is a country that’s famous for its windmills, it’s no surprise there are over 1,000 windmills spread across the Netherlands.
- Belgium is located in the heart of Europe and is one of the six founding countries of the European Union, and its capital, Brussels, is the de facto capital of the European Union.
