I-LEAD Switzerland
Why Switzerland?
Unique Business Culture
Switzerland is one of the most competitive economies in the world, in large part thanks to its flourishing service sector. By international standards public debt in Switzerland is low, and the country has a competitive tax system. Most Swiss firms (over 99%) are small – and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). These are defined as companies with fewer than 250 employees.
Second Highest GDP Globally
Switzerland has the second highest gross domestic product (GDP) per capita in the world. At the end of 2015 Swiss GDP per capita stood at CHF 77,943 (approx. EUR 73,000 or USD 81,000).
Sustainable Focus
Switzerland has 638 hydroelectric power plants. They account for 59.9% of total domestic electricity production. At present, Switzerland is in the midst of an energy transition. One of the aims of the country’s ‘Energy Strategy 2050’ is the phase-out of nuclear power.
Leading Society
The Swiss have one of the highest life expectancies in the world: 81.5 years for men and 85.3 years for women. The normal age of retirement for men is 65 and 64 for women. Switzerland also boasts a healthcare system which utilises 12.2% of their GDP – one of the most expensive in the world and well above the OECD average (8.8%)
Incredible Landscapes
Around 30% of Switzerland’s surface area is covered by woodland. Today, Switzerland has 11 UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the Jungfrau-Aletsch region (Aletsch glacier), the remains of prehistoric pile-dwellings, as well as two incredibly scenic railway lines in the canton of Graubünden.
